Description

I've been saying for a while that I've wanted to post more miniatures, so here you go. These were three NPC mercenaries for a D&D mission I DMed for my brothers and some friends. There were originally four, but the fourth one was a big complicated model that ended up falling apart.

Here's a description as the players heard it during their adventure....They were getting information from the local innkeeper that they'd befriended:

"Late last night four mercenaries arrived in Sylvanheim of such villainous renown that I fear for your very lives. They came in here…in my very inn and sat to have a drink. They asked no questions, they just sat at a table and looked over the place. Thank goodness they didn’t ask any questions, because I do not know if I would have had the courage to lie for you. I’m ashamed to say it, but it is the truth at least. These men, I know them not but by reputation alone, and this is all I know:
“The first [middle guy in the top picture] is named Lao Che, they call him ‘the Hun,’ he’s a former cavalry captain in the great eastern armies, now an unmatched tracker of great renown.
“Next is Bjorn the Black [guy on the left], I have not heard of him, but The Brazenbuckle says he’s a dark-hearted barbarian and woodsman of great strength and skill, said to have slain with his own two hands the bear who’s fur he now wears.
“The third [guy on the right], I believe, is simply called ‘Ironhorn,’ rumor says he was raised in the arenas of the old empire. He was so twisted and battered by that life that nothing was left but a shell of a man, an animal bred to fight, tooth and nail, to the death.”

I had fun figuring out some new ways to photograph miniatures, and I think they turned out pretty well. THese were also the first of my new face-painting technique, which is much-improved over my old methods...if interested in details, I'm happy to share.

Sorry about the low-resolution...photoshop crashed in the middle of making this image, and all I could do (since I hadn't saved it yet), was take a screenprint.

I'll probably post some Warhammer 40k minis next.
